Welcome, mate, to the third event on the UBM calendar!

We’re revisiting one of the most challenging yet fun events we’ve ever done.

Imagine you’re a kid again, and sports carnival day. You’re preparing to run, jump, and throw stuff to the best of your ability to contribute to your team’s overall win.

Now imagine that happening on a pristine Gold Coast beach with just you and your mates, all laughing together and pushing each other.

That’s pretty much the gist of it!

Now, if you’ve joined us for an event before, you understand the value of taking the road less travelled and doing the things most won’t or can’t be bothered to do.

If this is your first time, then here’s why we do these events:

You’re probably on this page because you want to become the healthy, confident, and strong role model for yourself and those around you.

Getting in shape and learning how to train our bodies and eat healthily is an integral part of the puzzle, but it’s not the only thing we need to work on to be the men we want to be.

All great men have the courage to walk into the unknown and take action on things they cannot be certain will work in pursuit of their ultimate goals. All great men cultivate a deep sense of self-confidence; no matter what stands between them and their goal, they will be able to overcome it, and we only develop this from betting on ourselves and taking on those challenges.

Every challenge we complete is going to test our character. It’s going to force us to do something new. It’s going to push us to walk into the unknown. And every time we commit to doing that, we take a big step closer to becoming the man we genuinely want to be.

SO WHAT DOES THIS CHALLENGE INVOLVE?

There are ten different team-based sporting competitions down at Main Beach on the GC. 

You’ll find out precisely what these competitions are on the day. If you’re thinking something like: 

“I’m not that fit or strong. I’m not going to be any good for the team.” 

Then, firstly, you’ve got to know that your participation is the real win. UBM is about being a part of a team of fit, strong, and confident men; that’s our overall goal. By showing up, you are contributing to that goal!

The teams will be evenly weighted in strength and fitness, so we’ll make it as fair and competitive as possible.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

  • Light, stretchy, and sporty clothing
  • I will provide some water and snacks, but feel free to bring your own.
  • Potentially a fresh set of clothes if you want to change afterwards
  • A towel
  • I’d recommend bringing some electrolytes
  • And anyone who requires any form of medication (inhaler etc.), please bring that with you, as well as any braces/straps etc, for niggly joints.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THIS?

  • Well, firstly, endurance training, as it will likely be a long day with a large crew, but also, if you can do any climbing or scrambling practice beforehand, that will help.
  • Practice running on sand would be a great idea!
  • Plenty of core and upper-body training also wouldn’t be a bad idea!
  • MOST IMPORTANTLY, be as injury-free as possible. This means stretching, recovery, and rehab are of key importance between now and then! Think of stretching routines, foam rolling, massage, ice baths, etc.

Lastly, do not forget…

Men aren’t born, they’re built.
